About Grubtrip

Grubtrip is a vacation meal-planning web app that turns one shared menu into a single Walmart cart and a fair cost split for families and friends sharing a rental house.

What Grubtrip does

Shared meal calendar

Every breakfast, lunch and dinner of the trip on one grid. Families claim the meals they will cook, so the plan is settled before anyone packs.

Recipe helper

Type a meal idea and get three recipes scaled to the whole group, respecting dietary notes and skipping what is already in the pantry.

One grocery list, one Walmart cart

Every meal merges into a single list, matched to Walmart products near the rental, and opens as one cart for pickup or delivery.

Fair cost split

An estimate per person before anyone shops, and after the receipts, exactly who owes whom. Shared costs split by headcount; personal extras stay personal.

House and wishlist

What the house has, what to bring, the non-food things people forget, and a wishlist the group votes on.

What makes Grubtrip different

Built for a house full of families, not one shopper

List apps such as AnyList or Google Keep share a list; they do not know who is cooking Saturday dinner or which family pays for the beer. Grubtrip starts from the people and the meals.

Meals and money in one place

Splitwise splits a bill after the fact and a spreadsheet tracks a menu, but neither does both. Grubtrip's cost split comes straight from the plan and the receipts.

Invite link, no app store, no passwords

Everyone opens the same link on their phone. Joining takes an email code. Nobody installs anything or remembers a password.

Real products, real prices, one cart

Items are matched to Walmart products near the rental's zip code, so the estimate uses real prices and checkout is one tap.

Nothing sold, nothing tracked

Grubtrip does not sell data, runs no advertising cookies, and sends dietary notes to its AI helper only with each family's explicit consent.

Who uses Grubtrip

  • Extended families planning a reunion week in a rental house, typically 10 to 30 people across three to six households.
  • Groups of friends sharing a cabin, beach house or ski lodge for a long weekend.
  • A single family planning a week of dinners for a vacation rental and shopping once on the way in.
  • Organizers of retreats, team offsites and youth trips who need a shared menu and a fair split.

The team behind Grubtrip

Grubtrip was founded in 2026 by John Kane, a builder of small, focused software products, after one too many family trips where the menu lived in a text thread and the receipts lived in a shoebox. It is built and run by a small team under Lazy Ventures INC, a Delaware corporation.

How Grubtrip works with you

Frequently asked questions

Does Grubtrip cost anything?

No. Grubtrip is free to use. You pay Walmart for your groceries exactly as you would on Walmart.com, and Grubtrip may earn a small affiliate commission at no extra cost to you.

Does everyone in the group need an account?

Anyone can view the plan from the invite link. To claim meals or add items, a person signs in with an email code; there is no password and nothing to install.

Can we use it for one family?

Yes. A single household can plan the week's dinners, note what the rental kitchen already has, build the list and shop once. The cost split simply shows one family.

Which stores does it work with?

Walmart today, for pickup or delivery from the store nearest the rental's zip code. Other grocers may follow.

How are costs split?

Shared groceries split by headcount by default, so a family of five pays more than a couple; the organizer can switch to an even split per family. Personal extras are always charged to the family that added them.

What happens to our data after the trip?

Nothing is deleted automatically. Past trips stay in your account as an archive so you can revisit last year's menu. You can download or delete everything from your account page at any time.
